Adult social care

Adult social care is a term used to describe the services and support available to adults who need help with everyday tasks due to physical or mental health issues, disability, or age-related frailty. It includes home care, daycare, respite care, and residential care. Adult social care also covers support for people with learning disabilities and those with mental health problems. It can involve providing practical help such as assistance with shopping, cleaning, and cooking; emotional support; advice on benefits; and access to leisure activities. Adult social care aims to enable people to live as independently as possible in their homes and communities.

Child social care

Child social care is a term used to describe the services and support provided to children and young people who are in need of help. This includes those who are at risk of harm, neglect or abuse, as well as those with disabilities or special educational needs. It also covers those who are looked after by the local authority, such as those in foster or residential care. Child social care services aim to ensure that children and young people have access to the best possible care and support, enabling them to reach their full potential. This includes providing advice and guidance on parenting, helping families access appropriate services, providing therapeutic interventions for children and young people, and offering advocacy for those in need.
